2007 - 2008 Projects
The 2007 - 2008 New England Regional Officers sponsored three major regional projects, each related to the International Honors Study Topic, Gold, Gods & Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power and the International Service Project, Operation Green: Improving Our Communities. They also continued to improve communication by redesigning the regional website.
Regional Honors Project
For their Regional Honors Project, the officers asked each chapter to explore the theme of power and AIDS through scholarship and art. Each chapter was challenged to discuss the subject of AIDS and then create a poster communicating their conclusions. A $150 scholarship for Honors Study Topic programming was designated for the chapter that participated most successfully in the project.
This project was inspired by our sister region, the Middle States, and their 2007 - 2008 Regional Project “Rooted and Reaching: Branches of Hope,” which supported Keep a Child Alive. The New England Region was proud to be one of three Division I regions that committed to explore the theme of AIDS through regional programming during the 2007 - 2008 year.

Regional Service Project
For their Regional Service Project, the 2007 - 2008 regional officers continued the 2006 - 2007 team’s tree-planting program, this time with an international focus. The New England Region partnered with Trees for the Future, one of the world’s most highly-regarded non-profit organizations, to support tree-planting in nine of the world’s most impoverished, environmentally-devastated nations.
The project was designed so that all chapters could participate in it, regardless of funds or community resources. Chapters could adopt a village of their own to work with, become members of the Trees for the Future organization, or use the educational resources provided by Trees for the Future to educate members of their own communities about the environmental crises beyond our borders.

Honors Anthology
The 2007 - 2008 Regional Officers introduced the New England Regional Honors Anthology, a long-term project related to both the Honors Study Topic and the International Service Project.
Rather than simply giving awards for the most outstanding written and 2D works produced by members within the region, the 2007 - 2008 officers decided to offer a way for those submissions to actually be published. With the assistance of the Savannah College of Art & Design and the members of the Regional Advisory Board, the officers published the first edition of the Honors Anthology and distributed copies at the 2008 Regional Convention in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Since the Regional Advisory Board decided to include the Honors Anthology in their revisions of the Regional Art Awards, the project will be continued by future officer teams.

Communication Improvement
The New England Regional Officers knew that the regional website needed to be redesigned and expanded in order to make it more beneficial to the region. Alpha Upsilon Alpha member and former officer Aaron Dowden, who designed the region’s 2006 - 2007 Outstanding Chapter Website, was recruited to assist with the effort. With Aaron’s help, a new permanent Regional Convention website was also created, which will be updated each year.
