Members Earn 2009 New England Transfer Scholarships

The three recipients of the 2009 New England Transfer Association scholarships have been announced, and two of them are Phi Theta Kappans!

Thomas Russell, treasurer of the Phi Delta chapter at Mount Wachusett Community College, received the Rowe T. Austin Scholarship, valued at $1,000 (USD). Thomas has received many awards during his time at Mount Wachusett, including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship and the Visions Program Award. He also served as president of the Human Services Club and was a student leader for the Visions Program, which serves students from underprivileged backgrounds. He will be attending Fitchburg State College in the fall.

Erica Pelletier, a member of the Alpha Xi Omega chapter at Holyoke Community College, received the Jane Hanna Scholarship, also valued at $1,000 (USD). Erica, who is a History and Political Science major from Agawam, Massachusetts, enrolled at the college in 2007 and accepted membership in Phi Theta Kappa in 2008. She served as president of the Student Senate and led a massive clean-up effort on campus as part of a campaign to reduce paper waste. Erica will be attending Smith College in the fall.
