Erica Carr, a member of the Alpha Delta Omicron chapter at Middlesex (MA) Community College in Bedford, Massachusetts, was recently named presented the 2008 Dorothy O’Connell Unsung Hero Award at MCC’s Leadership Recognition Ceremony. The award recognizes a student who demonstrates unselfish devotion to Middlesex and his or her fellow students.
A member of the MCC Class of 2008, Carr was a Liberal Arts & Sciences major with a Communications concentration. She received the Unsung Hero award for her work as Senior Editor of The Campus Report, MCC’s student newspaper. According to the newspaper’s advisor, Carr kept the newspaper alive this year, which was filled with many challenges never before experienced by the paper, while taking a full load of regular courses and maintaining her spot on the Dean’s List. As Senior Editor, she solicited stories, ads, and photographs from the MCC community and made many difficult but worthwhile decisions under working under intense pressure.
Alpha Delta Omicron, which was chartered in 1979 and is one of New England’s oldest chapters, recently inducted 148 new Phi Theta Kappans during MCC’s annual Honors Night. Membership in the chapter requires a cumulative 3.7/4.0 GPA or higher.
