The Hands Along the Nile Essay Contest is available to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who attend an accredited college or university, including community and junior colleges, in the United States. To be eligible for this award, you must submit an essay of no more than 2,500 words on the topic: “How is community development in the Middle East important to the U.S.? Why is it particularly crucial to focus on Egypt?”

This essay is an ideal opportunity for students with an interest in the Middle East, international community building, international relations, and U.S. foreign and economic policy.

The deadline for entries is July 4, 2009. Up to five prizes – First Place ($5,000), Second Place ($2,500), Third Place ($1,500), and two Honorable Mentions ($500 each) – will be awarded to the most outstanding essay-writers. For details, download the information packet for applicants.
