New England Regional Milestones
1965: Nu Omega of Fisher College in Boston, Massachusetts, the oldest active Phi Theta Kappa chapter in New England, receives its charter
1967: Pi Omicron of the Community College of Rhode Island is chartered, making it the Ocean State’s oldest active chapter

1968: New England hosts the first International Honors Institute, on the theme of “Our Cultural Heritage: 1800-1860,” at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts
1973: New England hosts the sixth Honors Institute, “Voices of Human Experience,” at Endicott College
1973: Omega Rho of Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut is chartered, making it the Nutmeg State’s oldest active chapter
1979: Alpha Delta Chi of River Valley Community College in Claremont, New Hampshire is chartered, making it the Granite State’s oldest active chapter
1980: New England hosts the thirteenth Honors Institute, “A Time for Truth: America’s Need for Governmental Renaissance,” at Endicott College
1981: Alpha Eta Mu of Thomas College in Waterville, Maine is chartered, making it the Pine Tree State’s oldest active chapter
1987: New England and New York split to create their own independent regions, with Dr. Paul Wittmer from the Alpha Iota Alpha chapter (Tunxis Community College) becoming New England’s first regional coordinator
1992: New England hosts the twenty-fifth Honors Institute, “1492-1992: The Dynamics of Discovery,” at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massaschusetts
1994: Beta Alpha Epsilon of Landmark College in Putney, Vermont is chartered, making it the Green Mountain State’s oldest active chapter
1996: New England hosts the twenty-ninth Honors Institute, “The Arts: Landscape of Our Time,” at Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island
1999: Alpha Upsilon Alpha advisor and Manchester (CT) Community College English professor Patrick Sullivan becomes New England’s first recipient of the Mosal Award
2001: Alpha Iota Nu (Norwalk Community College) member Ari Disraelly is elected International Vice President for the New England/Middle States (now Division I)
2003: Alpha Delta Omicron (Middlesex Community College) member Faye Woffenden-Phillips is part of the first class of Phi Theta Kappa International’s Leaders of Promise Scholars
2004: Regional president Diane Hutchins is named a Distinguished Regional Officer by Phi Theta Kappa International for her work during the 2003-2004 academic year
2005: NERA, the New England Regional Alumni Association, is chartered at the regional convention hosted by Alpha Upsilon Alpha at Manchester (CT) Community College
2006: Beta Omicron Alpha of St. Vincent’s College in Bridgeport, Connecticut becomes New England’s 58th active chapter, the youngest in the region
2007: The New England Institute of Art in Brookline, Massachusetts receives its designation as the Beta Pi Lambda chapter, preparing it to become New England’s 59th active chapter
2008 Milestones
January: The Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors approves New England’s request for a regional fee increase at their annual meeting, making the new fee $5 (USD) per member
March: In cooperation with the Savannah College of Art & Design, the New England Region publishes its first Honors Anthology, distributed at the 20th Annual Regional Convention in Nashua, New Hampshire
April: The Alpha Upsilon Omicron chapter (NHTI-Concord Community College) is named a Top 100 chapter at the 90th International Convention in Philadelphia; Alpha Upsilon Alpha (Manchester (CT) Community College) member and 2007 - 2008 Regional President Ashley Odell is named Distinguished Regional Officer; Alpha Nu Epsilon advisor and Northwestern Connecticut Community College biology professor Sharon Gusky becomes New England’s second Mosal Scholar
